Event Description

The American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee hosted the first of its kind “Young Leaders Empowerment Conference” this past Saturday, December 1st. The event hosted forums that featured academic leaders, like Hofstra University Dean Lawerence Levy, to newly elected New York Assembly member Catalina Cruz, and many other well regarded elected officials, activists, scholars, and community leaders.

Organizing among the Pakistani-American youth is never an easy task, however, APPAC proved that when engaged our youth more than willing to step up to the task. Forums on “political organizing, fighting racism, embracing diversity, and the importance of philanthropy” were well attended by over 350 Pakistani-American youth.

Most importantly, all in attendance left the conference with a set of civic and political goals that will help Pakistani-Americans pursue a unified and focused agenda. If before people thought our communities youth were stagnant, after this weekend that perception will change. The youth in attendance learned strategize, shared ideas, and were given leadership to go out into the world and start to immediately work for change.
